I love the fact that this is just the author's documented dreams and after each she reveals the interpretation. I felt like interpretation was something that I took could do with my own dreams after reading what she says about hers. I have about 6 different books about dreams from a Christian perspective at this moment and I can honestly say that this one is very different from all of the others--that's why I like it. This is not the book that you want to get if you are just looking for a book of symbols and thier interpretation.

Best camera for the price I bought this camera to replace a broken one for our 4 camera security system. I originally paid over $100 for each camera in the system and found that this one I purchased works as well if not better than the expensive ones. I am very happy with it. happy and satified customer Thanks to the sellers, i found exactly what I was looking for. These cameras works great and I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in purchasing cameras forthere homes.Two thumbs up. Security Camera The camera worked fine (at first), then it bit the dust for reasons unknown. I have sent it back to the supplier and we'll see what they have to say. There attitude was "send it back and we'll test it to see what's the problem". NOT....send it back and we'll send you another... I'm waiting to see what they say. --------------- Later...they did send a new unit...but said the power supply was incorrect and I needed a different one...I am pretty sure it's the one they sent with the unit originally. They said they didn't sell one like that but I found one that seemed to be an exact match on their web site.. Perhaps I'm wrong but that's my story..I just bought a new one from another vendor. The camera works fine now.

Beware this thing have no zoom!!!! Ok my mistake.... the seller never claim that this device actually have a zoom feature, but I was mislead by the part where it claim that it does have 4X optics but anyway. Putting that aside the Night Vision feature does work properly. I give it one star just because I think that at this price it should have a zoom. You can find cheaper devices with pretty good zoom. If you don't need or want a zoom monocular this should be fine for you.

Daytime use only| Out of the four different night-vision bullet camera I own (all in the same price range), this is my least favorite. The picture during the day is acceptable but the camera is useless at night. It doesn't pick up anything at 30 feet with the LEDs and even when I turn on the outside light it doesn't pick up much more. Since purchasing it, I've seem similar comments about this camera elsewhere. I wouldn't buy it unless it is for daytime or (very) well illuminated nighttime use only.

Fun but wildly impractical I think my title is a pretty good description: fun but wildly impractical! But I saw night vision goggles for this price and thought that this is a toy I can't do without. It's actually really, exceedingly cool provided you do not attempt to use them to navigate. For example, go get a toilet paper roll. Close your left eye. Hold the roll up to your right eye and start walking around. This is identical to the experience you will have with these goggles: VERY narrow field of vision in one eye. That said, they do what they say and the construction seems pretty rugged and kid-friendly. You'll need a phillips head screwdriver to get the batteries in and out. The whole thing is basically made of rubber it looks like it could survive a bit of rough handling. If you look at the picture of the item, the big thing in the middle is the camera, surrounded by some high powered infra-red LEDs. Those can be switched on or off. When on, they visually glow a dull red but act as a floodlight for the camera. In front of the right eye you have another bank of lower powered LEDs which do not glow when on and act as a lower-powered light source for the camera. This lets you switch between "stealth" (no glow, lower visibility) mode and "observation" (slight glow, higher visibility) mode. The left eye is covered with a simple plastic cover which is on a hinge and can be opened for a source of "normal" vision. The view itself, as mentioned, is very narrow, but quite good. You can certainly turn off all the lights and make out the interior of your house in great detail, although I have to say the narrow scope and false color sets you up for a real "Blair Witch" feeling. I was actually thinking you could get a great haunted house by making people wear these in a pitch black environment. I think you'd have a hard time using it for anything practical (including, say, hide-and-go-seek) simply because it feels dangerous trying to move around while wearing them. You're asking to trip on or bump into something. Still, I'm keeping em. Too cool not to have for this price. REAL nightvision for $80! As the product details and other reviews state, this toy actually has REAL nightvision technology! And considering most low-end NV solutions start at around $500, the $80 pricetag is fantastic. However, the product isn't perfect. Most notably, despite its outward design, the goggles are NOT binocular. The single camera feeds to a monocular lens on the right eye. This causes serious disorientation and loss of depth perception. PROS- * $80 for REAL nightvision * easily adjustable * fairly lightweight * 2 brightness modes (see near and far) * B&W or green modes on monitor CONS- * MONOCULAR - only one screen inside, over the right eye. * loss of depth perception * centered camera displays to user's right eye, causing disorientation * camera field of view is narrow (no peripheral vision) * lens fogs up While the product isn't perfect, it is a lot of fun, and very affordable when compared to other real NV solutions. EyeClops Night Vision Goggles - Surprising Performance With Some Warnings The EyeClops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles are being sold as a toy, and I'm not so sure this is a toy. Anybody who has seen the movie The Silence of the Lambs has probably wondered where somebody would get goggles like the kind used in one of the final scenes of that movie. These only show you one eye at a time but work just as good as those. These performed much better than I expected. The box says it's made for ages 8 and up, but I think this is probably more suited to VERY mature kids or your older friends. An immature person could get into a lot of trouble playing pranks with a toy like this. Still, I could see this being a learning aid for kids studying nocturnal animals. I could also see this being a fun toy on a camping trip. However you use this, it's a great gift idea and a pretty good value. PROS: + The performance in the dark is surprisingly good! + The price for this type of item is very reasonable + Nice adjustable power lets you see farther at night + Very good fit makes them relatively comfortable once you size them + Works well in both *green* or *black and white* modes + Easy installation (though time consuming! See below) + Nice portable unit that can be taken on camping or hiking trips + Allows you to wear glasses under the goggles + Left eye flips open so you can see a little before you turn them on + Included safety list is well thought out and should be read and followed CONS: - Plastic body and rubber straps do not feel durable; handle with care - Somewhat large lens and sensor on the top makes this top heavy - Only shows the image in one eye - Your depth perception is way off while wearing these - Takes 5 AA batteries and uses up juice fast! - Really difficult and time consuming to remove from packaging - You have to be careful who you give these to! SETTING UP While I normally would not quibble about this, taking this guy out of the packaging took me 30 minutes. This is a very poorly designed interconnected system of cardboard and plastic, held together by tape everywhere. When you are done you have a pile of cardboard and plastic that would be difficult if not impossible to put back together. The goggles come attached to a half face made of green plastic, but that is hardly adequate for storing them. Then you have to slowly adjust the rubber bands holding the unit to the plastic in order to get enough room to fit your head inside. Finally, you have to unscrew the battery top to add in 5 AA batteries. So this was a long installation, about 45 minutes in all. Just be warned if you are giving this on Christmas. If your kids try to quickly tear through this package, they will have a surprise coming to them. So take your time when you're opening this on Christmas morning. PERFORMANCE Once you do get to the point of adjusting the rubber and putting this on, you will find that the inside of the right eye has a small screen, almost like a min-TV screen. When you turn them on, the screen comes to life just like a TV. The performance in darkness was absolutely better than I had hoped for. These things really do work. The only thing that makes them less than ideal is that your depth perception is WAY OFF. It looks like things are closer than they are. This may be due to a delay in the image being processed to that screen. Whatever the reason, you should not be doing any obstacle courses with these on. TIPS = The left eye actually flips open, but you have to gently apply pressure till it opens. Make sure not to apply too much force, because once it opens it snaps back all the way and seems like something that would easily be broken. = The small knob next to the right eye is supposed to adjust your sensor for distance between the *stealth mode* for close proximity or the *surveillance mode* for far away. In my opinion, the stealth mode works best and allows you to see far enough (20-25 feet). The surveillance mode also emits a little bit of light so others may be able to see you. = Under the right eye, there's a small button to switch between green coloring (like the Silence of the Lambs) and black and white. The image seems equally visible in either, at least in my opinion. Perhaps this might matter more for somebody who is color blind. = The included booklet has a list of "Stealth Safety" tips on the second to last page (page # 6 in my book). These tips are very sound and should be read carefully. The best tip among all of them is to make sure you have extra batteries (5 AA) and a small Phillips screwdriver, because the batteries are supposed to last 3 hours or so. = While it says that you can fit glasses within the goggles, there is not too much room in there between the screen within the right eye and your eye. So if you have glasses that fit close to your face you should be fine. But curvy lenses that are far from your eye may be too big for use with these goggles. Plan to use contacts or a closer fitting pair of glasses if you can. = Invest in rechargeable batteries! Nice sets with batteries, spacers and a charger can be had for $20 to $40. You will be glad you did. CONCLUSION When I saw this up close and started getting it ready, I thought I was in for a disappointment. When I put them on, I was blown away. These perform much better than they look. I wish they were more solidly constructed, but perhaps that's how they were able to keep the price so low. Give them a chance. Just be careful who you give these to! Enjoy!

a vision comes to you when things are dark I hadn't used a night vision device much before, and I got this because I had a little disposable income to dispose of. It really does a good job of bringing vision to the evening darkness, sort of like I imagine a cat or owl would see. To someone who doesn't know what this is or does, it's about as big as your hand, so it's portable. Has zoom feature (click to zoom, release and it's back to normal), brightness adjustment, and focus. A well-made, sturdy device, not flimsy. And it shows you stuff outside when it's dark out and your eyes are hopelessly incapable of gathering enough light to see anything. If you wanted to be in a cave, it'd be nice if you had it there to show you what was around you in the cave. Or I guess in the basement looking to see if that was a mouse running around, without turning on the lights. Maybe you are boating around at night and want a better look at what's ahead. Or the subway stops and all the lights go out (uh, a bit too big to carry around all the time for such a circumstance). Dunno. It really does work to show you things, sorta like a black-white TV image of the world when your eyes can't see a thing. You figure out if you need it. Naked eye more sensitive to ambient light Small easy to use, but my eyes once adjusted to low light, are much better. IR mode is pretty much like using a dull flashlight and the IR LED's are visible to others.

Great Emergency Light The Gerber Hornet is a great tool to have around. Its dynamic body allows you to use it for several applications. It can be used as a flashlight, a lantern to light up your tent or part of a room in case of a power outage, and it also has an emergency beacon that flashes in red. Pros: The Gerber Hornet uses LEDs, which provide bright light and use the batteries more efficiently. The Hornet runs 40 hours in continuous on, or 200 hours in flashing/beacon mode. The Hornet has a dynamic body which lets you convert it from a flashlight to a lantern with a simple push of its body. It has a tripod which allows you to stand it up. This is particularly useful when using the Hornet as an emergency beacon. The Hornet runs on AAA batteries (included with purchase). These are inexpensive and easy to find. The hornet also includes a tough and generously shaped lanyard which allows you to hang the light as a lantern or to strap it to a backpack in case you need to be visible at night. The light has 3 LEDs, and with 5 modes. The modes are off, superbright spot white, flood white, nightvision red in constant on, and a fast red flashing emergency beacon. Cons: The same dynamic structure can be considered a flaw. I had a somewhat hard time putting the head back on after installing the 3 included batteries. The light is bright and it serves the purpose of emergency lighting. However, there are obviously brighter lights on the market. If you are looking for a tactical light, this is not it. However, this is an excellent survival/emergency light that is good for camping, hiking, traveling, taking on roadtrips, hurricane/disaster preparedness kits, etc. If you're looking for extreme brightness you will be disappointed, but if you're looking for a decent survival light, this is a good choice. Poor quality Camera came out of the box not working, the image was a blur. $10 to ship to QSee and a week later, camera came back with a clear image during the day, but at night it looks like your looking through fog. Can't see a clear image at 150 ft. Good LEDs, but not so good CCD imager & lens I'll be honest here - I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars - I've changed it twice. I settled on 3 because q-see has such a clearly defined low-medium-high end product line. This is the medium and the expectations are set by that. The testing: On one hand Q-see managed to put out a value line of a true CCD imager with exceptional IR output (I have a lab grade IR meter and the LEDs in this really do put out the beam) but... for $70 more you can get their top of the line unit Q-see Outdoor Ccd Camera 540TVL with 250FT Night Vision Here's what the $70 upgrade buys you #1 - the QSB550SR is a true high definition camera with 550 lines of TV resolution in night mode (540 in color day mode) - this camera is measuring about 470 lines. It's a big deal in being able to read a license plate or not. #2 - the 550SR also uses a genuine SONY SUPER HAD imager instead of the no-name ccd chip inside this unit #3 - the 550SR actually puts out MORE IR than this unit #4 - the 550SR has a much better weather sealed case #5 - the 550SR has a 10X zoom lens (5mm - 50mm) #6 - the 550SR has a focus and zoom ring weather sealed #7 - the 550SR comes with a 3A power supply And last, but certainly not least #8,9,10 the 550SR has inside it a sony DSP noise reduction chip and built it motion detection, and backlight control, as well as your choice of night mode being IR w/color or IR and only black + white but with better resolution. You set these parameters with an on screen menu that is pulled up with a PS/2 keyboard mini-din plug (email me for info on how to make a remote from a ps/2 cable - no sense in buying a remote you're only going to use to setup the camera) I sent back this unit and bought the 550SR - not only was it feature packed, but the 10X zoom lens was a real "wow" factor and the LEDs were focused to the distance so you could use the zoom feature. The mounting bracket is also superior on the 550SR than this camera. I was much happier and over the lifespan of the camera, $70 is not that much when it comes to being able to get good color and good night picture quality. I'm giving it a 3 star rating because this one still puts out alot of IR light and because it is 70 dollars cheaper. But if it were any more expensive it would be a 2 star camera compared to the 550SR. The Sony image quality just can't be beat - at night it is a .00006 lux camera which is pretty spectacular at turning night into day, and this camera's CCD chip does not do that well at night - the whole image is pretty grey without fine detail that the real high resolution sony gives. One note - the extension cables (65 ft or so) that q-see gives you are at best average. Their roll cable (500 ft bulk) is true rg-59 which is much better suited to the task. The freebies that come in the camera box combine power and video into one cable with a single shield being the power ground. On the spool cable it is a "siamese" construction with two power wires separate from the genuine rg-59 coax that you can crimp any connector you want (rca on the tv end for example and bnc on the camera end if you don't use a DVR) Plus you can peal back the power side of the cable and run it to a distribution box like the Q-See QS1210 18 Camera Power Distribution Panel which makes for a more professional install. Q-see gives you the same extension cables in all their cameras, but it lowers the resolution of their truly high res cameras like the 550SR which when placed into a modern hdtv set or a professional video monitor / VTR can really show its stuff. Like always, it all boils down to money - if money is tight, this will do the job - if you want all the fancy features of backlight cancellation and noise reduction, and the ability to configure the camera to your exact situation, then spend the $70 extra and get the one 550SR instead. embarrassing combinations The camera seems to be working just fine, although I am a bit concerned about a metallic tumbling sound that happens when you invert the unit- there is something loose in there and I can't get it out. The night vision is excellent, I already provided my local police with footage of a suspect breaking into a car. It's an OK unit if you don't mind retrofitting this camera to a realistic mounting bracket. The one it comes with is embarrassingly inadequate for any practical use. Next disappointment is the light shield; it doesn't fit the rails on the camera. That also took some retrofitting.

Night Light I came across this cool flashlight when searching for a small flash light for camping. I thought it would be cool to use the colored light at night to keep from blurring my night vision. Once I received this flashlight it works exactly as I hoped. It is well made, light weight and more than bright enough for using in the tent for reading with the colored light and walking outside with the white light. A great gift item for the outdoor enthusiast or keeping in the car for passengers who like to read at night. Nice Light, Cheap Switch White light is good and the red light useful. I appreciated that this flashlight used standard "AAA" batteries. However the switch was flakey and eventually failed. Not worth returning however I won't buy this light again.

most practical flashlight ever! The stylus is the single most practical and convenient flashlight I have ever owned. It is so small that you can carry one just about anywhere. I have used these lights for everything from looking for keys dropped under a couch to map-reading in my car and even as a supplemental light on search and rescue missions. The green light is plenty bright, and in many respects better than the white light version as it won't hurt your night vision -- and won't bother people if you turn it on at the opera to look at the program. One of my faves I love these things. I got a couple of the green LED to preserve night vision and the white LED ones just to be "normal" ;) It's tough: LED/light technology is just out of this world ... you can get amazing/blinding beams (pro/con) for cheap and I'll as often go to my keychain light. But the nice thing about this little baton is that it's SOLID and looks serious... seems like the correct tool for pros in the medical or tech fields...or if you're a hunter hahha. It feels great in the hand and I always keep one in my satchel or glovebox. Decent throw, good light... if you're an uber-light geek, this won't replace anything you've got based on lux-capacity ;) It's the form and function of it, the warranty, and just your obsession with having every kind of light that would lead you to pick up one of these. I still think I'd get the green LED lights to rationalize getting more of these since I have so many lights already. (2.5 stars) Some good ideas, but didn't work well in practice overall When I got our first video monitor, I wondered if it would be useful, or just a gimmick, or one more way to worry about the baby! We've found it very useful. There are just some things that an audio monitor can't tell you. And being able to check on your child without the disturbance of going into her room can save a lot of trouble, especially in the transition times in the evening and in the morning, when little disturbances can lead to bigger ones. The video was especially useful when our child was a little older and moving around more, and we had left her to settle herself - which sometimes can seem like crying herself to sleep! :-( We used the video monitor to see if she was just unsettled (so we very much did not want to go into the room, or she wouldn't learn to settle herself) or had gotten into a spot she couldn't get out of (stuck in the bars of the crib, or lost her lovey, so we needed to go in and set things right). Video monitors are also useful to see when a child is awake, and how awake - sitting, standing, lying down or trying to climb out of bed! - or on her way to sleep, or not. And they can be lots of fun, too, to watch and listen! Our other monitor is analog, and once in a while we'd hear our neighbor talking on their cordless phone - which no doubt means they hear us sometimes! A digital monitor, like the Levana, should be private and static-free. So, I really wanted to like this product. Plus, I really needed it when a new baby arrived. But while it has an attractive design and some interesting features, the Levana Babyview monitor doesn't seem especially workable or useful for us. The main issue, of course, is the video and audio quality. Both are problematic on the Levana BabyView: Video: The video quality seems barely adequate. The resolution on the baby's face is OK, but just. The frame rate seems too low - you don't get anything like continuous motion. Every several seconds, the video freezes. From time to time, it freezes for a much longer time. The video compression used results in a blocky, low resolution quality, though luckily that primarily affects low-contrast areas. Overall it's tolerable but not especially enjoyable to use, and lower quality most of the time than our analog monitor. Audio: The audio had a persistent high pitched background whine when it was on. Also, it's apparently set to switch off and on at low volumes, so the audio is intermittent with lots of clicks, which is less than useful and more than irritating. The tiny microphone is in an odd location on the camera, it almost seems like an afterthought, perhaps that's part of the problem. Overall, much lower quality than our analog monitor. Further, the user should be able to better control the audio - have a microphone that picks up even low level sounds, and have a volume control on the handset that you can adjust; then the user can decide what to hear. Good quality audio can add a lot of information to how the child is doing. You don't want to lose audio quality to get video - a monitor like this should have good quality audio and video. Some aspects of the Babyview are well done: - The design is fairly attractive and compact. (Handset is 5.8" H with the antenna x 1" deep without the clip x 2.5" wide.) - The 2.3" screen is reasonably large. - The auto-switching between regular light and night vision seems to happen quickly and effectively. - The lithium ion battery in the handset is the best battery technology, in terms of power for the weight. (It's what's used in digital cameras and cell phones.) They claim over 4 hours of battery life. - The power adapters work at US or international voltages. - The included clamp for the camera is well made and seems likely to work well in a variety of setups. Other features are good ideas that don't work well in practice: - The voice activation feature, which leaves the screen and the sound off until it picks up some sound, helps conserve battery and perhaps parents' nerves and sleep. But it needs too much noise to switch on - it's either set to too low a level, or the microphone isn't sensitive enough. And again, this is something that the user should be able to adjust. - The little curved base is clever, but doesn't work that well at the optimum focal range of 5 feet. When placed on a dresser next to the crib with the camera is tilted down enough to see the baby, the base blocks a big part of the image. In addition, when the camera is in the base, the camera starts to tilt due to the heavy filter on the power supply wire (a biggish black cylindrical part on the wire). So for both those reasons, the cute clever magnetic base isn't much use in practice. Some of the features seem potentially nice but I'm not sure I'd use them - such as the nightlight and the music. I almost wonder if they added them to distinguish this product from their security cameras. Finally, there are a couple elements of the design that aren't so great. Having a bright green power LED on the front of the camera is thoughtless on a baby monitor, though luckily it's easy enough to tape over (and there are so many lovely colors of electrical tape these days). And the glowing red night vision lights seem to have too much potential for distracting or even upsetting a child. The wireless frequency is 2.4ghz, the same as wireless internet and some cordless phones. The Levana has enough channels (32, with auto signal hopping) that intereference shouldn't be a major problem, but I can't definitely evaluate that at this point. The company's website is [...], though there's very little info there. Their parent company is SVAT Electronics, which makes security cameras and the like. So even though this is a new product from an unknown brand, they do have experience with this sort of thing. Perhaps their next generation of this product will have some of the wrinkles ironed out. The Levana Babyview20 *INTERFERENCE FREE* Digital Wireless Video Monitor does a good job carrying a consistent signal; I haven't experienced any major freezes or losing video signal. However, I did notice some very brief pause when there's fast motion during night vision, but it is very brief. The night vision works very well. The camera contains 9 infrared lights. In the dark, you can actually see it glowing red, but it is pretty dim (the green power LED is brighter); hopefully, that's not something that would scare the baby at night. You can see the actual infrared lights during the video I've uploaded, but it is actually not that bright; that is how the digital camera sees it -- not to the human eye. But from the video, you can just get an idea of how much infrared lights are in there. According to Levana, the infrared lights are 100% safe to the baby. There is a VOX (Voice Operated eXchange) feature, which allows the monitor to be off and only turns on when there is sound detected (for example when the baby starts crying) on the camera. This is a nice feature, but it would have been nice to be able to adjust the sound sensitivity to even detect lower sounds. The monitor comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. According to Levana, it takes 3 hours to fully charge; blue LED means it is charging and when it goes off, it means fully charged. The camera requires four AAA batteries (not included) if you don't connect it to an AC adapter. Levana claims the camera can operate for 4.5 continuous hours with AAA batteries. (and about half if you use the night light) So obviously, it's best to have an outlet nearby the camera to use the AC instead or be sure to buy some rechargeable AAA batteries. On the left side of the monitor, it has a PLAY/STOP, NEXT, and VOX button. On the right side of the monitor, it has ON/OFF dial (which also controls the volume), and BRIGHTNESS UP/DOWN button above it. The power adapter jack is also on the right side bottom. Below the LCD screen, it shows the POWER/LINK/VOX/MUSIC indicator; there's also an audio level indicator between them with green LEDs. And of course, there's the speaker below it. That's all it is. It is really basic and simple. * Takes about 3 seconds for the monitor to turn on * There's four levels of brightness. * 3 lullabies can be played on the camera. You can play/stop/next from the monitor. * There is a Night Light switch on the camera, which just turns on three star-shaped lights on the camera. * The camera comes with two mounts. One is for clamping on a crib and the other is a magnetic cradle. The cradle is actually pretty nice, which will allow you to rotate the camera in many directions freely with ease. Careful with the magnetic cradle! The magnet is pretty strong, so you'll want to keep sensitive electronics, especially hard drives away from it. Sure, in today's HD world, it'd be nice to have everything in great quality. However, higher quality videos will obviously take higher bandwidth to transmit and more battery power. The video quality is pretty much what one would expect with low-end/average webcam. It's not horrible, but you have to be realistic. Overall, it's decent since you can still tell what you're looking at. Pros: - Good range for around the house (100-150ft) - Have not lost any reception. - Design is fit for a baby's room. - Pretty close to real-time (about approx 0.5 second delay - not a major big deal) - Night Vision works great. - Night light - Monitor can be clipped on to your belt or as a stand - Comes with two AC adapters for powering camera or charging monitor - Basic, very simple to use. Cons - No color adjustments; you get what you get. (webcam quality) - Could use wider lens to see surroundings. (perhaps have an add-on to attach easily to screw on to the lens) - There should be a button on the monitor to turn on/off the night light. - The camera could use rechargeable lithium batteries like the monitor. - Should be able to adjust sound sensitivity for VOX - Would be really nice to have an automatic panning/zooming capability - Sound can echo. I give this product a 3 1/2 stars, but will be a bit lenient and give it a 4, since I have not tested other baby monitors. Nice Iteration of an Existing Concept The Levana Babyview20 is definitely not a unique idea, but the way its been implemented could be considered unique. How many of us want to see and listed to our babies? My wife just recently had our second child, so testing out this product was easy. In addition to being just a regular video monitor, the Babyview20 offers music, a night light, night vision, and nearly static-free audio (overall, not bad). Both the monitor and the camera can run off of batteries, although power adapters are included. When we first setup the unit and tested it out, we were quite pleased with the quality. Since our daughter is so young, we simply placed the camera in her bassinet. If your child is older, you can use the included attachment to attach the camera to a crib-side. Overall, quality was good, we could hear her breathe, and all was well. Setup was definitely a breeze. During subsequent uses, however, we ran into some issues. The monitor started to lose its connection to the camera. Flipping off the monitor and turning it back on, powering the monitor with the power adapater, and even switching batteries in the camera didn't make a difference. I was forced to call Levana, which offered very friendly customer support. I was told to simply hold the "VOX" button (which is a mode that will only turn the monitor on if audio comes from the camera) and hold down the night vision button on the camera. After doing this, lo and behold, things started working again. Either way, if you run into the issue, hopefully this can help prove to be useful. In the end, a great product that was executed very well. It's not perfect by any means (the music could sound better, for one), but, considering this appears to be Levana's second product, I think they've, hands down, got a winner. UPDATE: After about a week of writing this review, I've had nothing but trouble with the camera and monitor. It keeps loosing its connection, and, despite the advice they gave me above, I haven't been able to get it to work. Also, before, there wasn't much static coming through the monitor, now it has a constant noise coming through it despite my daughter sleeping.

good surprise I purchased the glasses mainly to be able to play tennis at night since I could not longer see the ball well, even in well-lighted courts. Was I ever surprised when I first put them on. I could see be ball as if it was daylight. The glasses have allowed me to play my favorite sport a lot more frequently. Security, everyone needs it. Security is always important for everything. One lives better the more secure they feel, usually. I bought this to hook up some cameras around my house. From street walking thieves to people with nothing better to do. There's a whole mess of situations I wouldn't have been able to see until now. I believe everyone should have this kind of security. That way you don't have to go outside and find out what the noise is. Just turn your screen on and boom, you have the best view.

Good company and product I bought a VR3 Wireless Back-up Camera System with 3.5" screen, and installed on my silverado crewcab.my neighborhood has a lot of kids playing in the street.everytime I try to backup my car from the driveway makes me worry.They are often showing up behind your car when you try to backup.Now I can see them clearly,pictures are very clear even in the dark.It is good to use in a tight parking lot also, after a couple days of use I can judge the distance pretty well.This is a very good product.I am thinking about to install one for my wife's Astro mini van,or a Christmas gift for my brother in Texas,he has a trailer and a big van. Very good rear cam I installed the camera as instructed and it worked really well sitting still, but when actually moving the picture would break up. So I ordered the extension cable and the picture is clear all the time. It took a little more time to run the cable, but it is well worth it. I even hooked the camera up to a switch so it can be on while driving. It now works like a charm! If you're looking for a reverse camera, this is a very good choice if you get the cable and hardwire it. Disappointed I installed my camera on a 2005 full size pickup truck hoping it would help me to see behind my truck. Unfortunately the interferance (black horizontal lines) on the monitor is so bad it's difficult to really see what you are trying to view. It is only 12' from the camera to the monitor. Perhaps if you spent the extra money and purchased the hard wire cable it would become acceptable.

Neat little night vision device at a low price Nice night vision device, set up for close distances (low mag). Can focus at very low range, which is useful for lab use. A good product` Excellent in an enclosed space. however, dissent outside. Although the IR lamp doesn't illuminate very large distances this equipment is good for areas of 20-40 feet. Nice entry level Night Vision Monocular Great for camping, fishing , hiking or a power failure after a storm - if you are an occasional user with no high demand like me. It was easy to setup and can now view live video on my phone or any of my PC's. I use this camera mainly to view wildlife behind my house. I have motion detector flood lights that light up the area at night, so I normally don't need the Moonlight Mode, although it does work great in low light. The attached video was taken at night without using the Moonlight Mode. I'll attach another video showing what a video looks like with Moonlight Mode turned on. This is an amazing camera and has a very sharp picture. I do wish it had an external mic jack like my SCNC2601. The audio is much louder and more sensitive when using an external mic. An external mic jack is on my wish list for the next smart phone supported model. :-) Comparing this camera to my SCNC2601, I would say the SCNC2606 has a sharper picture but I do like the SCNC2601 for it's Pan and Tilt capabilities and its external mic and speaker jacks. WOW Ok first off I'm in the ARMY and i can not say enough about this flash light it uses 3 triple a batteries that last 200 hours and the bulb is a led so they usually last 100,000 hours i cant tell you how much abuse this flashlight has been through the best general light you can buy. its not the brightest but it more than does the job and it comes with red and blue lens covers and a case. Easy to use and setup Not happy with product or Company Standing behind product
I purchased the product at a store on the way home from the beach about 80 miles from my home. I figured worse case the company would stand up behind their product. When I set it, which was extremely easy!!! The daytime picture was great and I like it. The time time image is something less than to be desired. There is a white washed bar across the center of the screen. It is a fault, (reading online reviews of the product), in the design of the camera. Something reflects back and causes the distortion. I called and emailed the company. They were adamant that I drive back 80 miles and return it to the store from which I purchased. They also said that it was a user error something with how I was setting it up. Have emails to prove this. I saved them for instances like this. But Swann has lost a customer with how they handled this. I have and use the camera for daytime use. If you are looking for a night time camera I would look elsewhere. Just my opinion.

Poor Choice
Purchased this to use on my computer and the USB port. Company replies that software is not ready for computer although a CD is included. Do not buy if you want to use with a computer.

Monocular not binoculars but still good
This product is a monocular not a binocular. The secondary lens is actually an IR beam. I've had this device for about a year. It has pros and cons over traditional night vision. Unlike Gen1 devices, the Digital Ranger is not subject to optical damage when exposed to bright light. Image quality is distortion free unlike Gen1 devices. The device sports a jack to record video. I use a camcorder with no issues however, the video quality is very grainy in 0 lux conditions. The device is rugged but also bulky and heavy. It chews batteries when IR beams are on and continues to drain batteries even when off. Rechargeable NIMH's are a must. The performance is acceptable but range is limited by the power of the integrated IR beams. Only the high beam is switchable, the low IR beam stays on continuously when the unit is on. The high beam power can be adjusted. Lens is 5x which is fine for long distance but not good for close spotting. It needs a 1x wearable goggle companion. Animals do not see the IR beams but IR from unit can be seen by other night vision devices. Overall a good buy for the price.

Nice tool.
Its an excellent night vision tool,very fancy.But just for your info,these do not work like goggles,they're binocs and they're magnified to one point(to say the magnification is not adjustable,also you have to manually focus,and the field of view is very narrow.If you're looking to go out and work in the dark without carrying a flashlight I wouldn't reccomend these but goggles instead.On the upside, these things can be used day or night unlike analog NV,this device has an external video input plug for like a camcorder so this would make an excellent surveillance camera for night,one of my favorite things about this device is it has a massive IR illuminator which will prove useful to someone who wants to spot something far away.

Every driver should have them.
These night vision glasses are absolutely essential for night driving, especially on two-lane roads. Not What I thought
I puchased the defender cameras, but was disappionted when I found out that it will not record both cameras at the same time. You have to switch from one to the other. The DVR does not have picture in picture recording.
Also, the picture quailty on the cameras is poor. So I shopped for another camera online that had the same RCA wires to hook up into the DVR, and that had much better color, and night vison. I can only use the one camera, but its much better than the ones that came with it. It was another $ 75.00 IT was the SVAT camera with night vison of 45ft.The ones that come with the defender only have nightvison of 15ft.

Best outdoor camera so far.
After wasting time and money with the cheaper Q-See cameras, I decided to order one of these QS2350C outdoor cameras. Then bought another one. And then one more, for a total of 3. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with not only the picture quality, but the build quality of the camera itself. The cameras are being used with (2) 4-Channel Q-See PCI cards. The camera includes mounting hardware as well as 60ft of BNC video cable. No audio functionality. It uses BNC at both ends of the cable, so we were able to extend the one in the backyard to 120ft. However, the power cable is attached to the camera, and is only about 3ft in length. So you will need to get power to the camera wherever you decide to mount it.

The picture quality is excellent. Night vision also work quite well (B&W) so that you can actually see what is going on even when the sun is gone. Thanks to a low lux rating, the camera is able to remain in day time mode even when there is minimal lighting - which obviously provides the best possible picture. Even a dim light nearby is sometimes enough for it to go into day time mode.

Also thanks to the excellent mount and hardware, you have many options as to how you want to mount the camera - as long as it's outdoors. While you could put it indoors, I think it might stand out a bit too much. Besides, thanks to it's built-in Heater/Blower, it was meant to be outdoors. I haven't seen ours kick in yet though. It's still summer time.

Pros:

* Excellent picture quality (420 lines and 1/3 CCD)
* Very functional night vision mode (tested at over 100ft)
* Great build quality of camera/mount.
* Long 60ft BNC cable - easily expandable.
* The way the camera looks is probably the best deterrent to crime.

Cons:

* Separate power cable required (Power cable won't detach from the camera itself.)

Bottom line. If you are serious about a usable day/night video surveillance system at your house/small business and want to be able to record what you see - this is the one to get.

Q-See QS2350C Color CCD Camera
I am purchasing another one of these as i write this. The simple
statement of " works as advertised " doesn't begin to cover this
product.
As the owner of numerous Panasonic and Sony cameras, this one is
certainly worth the price.
Another customer wrote about the appearance of the unit alone as a
deterrent to would-be crooks and bad guys is true.
This camera will certainly get peoples attention, so if you are
concerned about irritating your neighbors, i would place it in an
less noticeable location ! As for the interference it creates, as
one reviewer noted, i haven't seen any evidence of this. Also have
checked with my neighbors about any possible problems and have not
heard anything negative. ( i have one that will complain about
everything--no matter what, as I'm sure many of you who read this
do too !.)

Crystal clear night/day all weather
Bought a kit with 2 of these and 4 of the non-heated Q-See outdoor cameras. At night the non-heated cameras tend to fog up making any real detail nearly impossible to make out while the QS2350C remains clear.

A real CON for this camera is the need for 120v power near the camera. The other cameras are powered by the video/power cable which you plug in near the DVR.

One of the better video monitors, but there's room for improvement
Video monitors might seem gimmicky, or for obsessive parents, but they are much more useful than you might think (see more thoughts in the last section of this review).

And the Summer Infant BestView is one of the top choices (the other one as of now being the more expensive Safety 1st High-Def Digital Video Monitor). Summer Infant has done a lot of things right - they got the basics of audio and video working, and added useful features like pan and zoom. And they haven't added too many useless features (like music or nightlights).

There are a few things, as mentioned in other reviews and below, that leave you wondering what they were thinking. But all of the monitors we've owned - three video monitors and two audio monitors - have had a few strange twists like that. And oddly our first video monitor, the seemingly stone age analog Summer Infant Video Monitor with a video tube, still has the best audio and video quality of all of them (when there's no static). But it's far from portable.

With any monitor, the video and audio quality are by far the most important features, and on the the Summer Infant Best View Monitor those work well. The pan and zoom also work well, and are useful features:

GOOD VIDEO: The video quality is good when using night vision, considering the limitations of night vision; and very good in normal light, with good color. There is little or no time delay, and relatively few skips in the movement.

The good normal-light video quality, together with the pan and zoom feature, would make this a very good playtime monitor for a toddler's room. (But I'm betting most people instead buy this as a baby monitor, and mostly use night vision / black & white.)

By the way, all night vision monitors will be black and white - they only switch to color when a room is well lit. That surprises some people.

BIG SCREEN: The 2.5" screen on the is bigger than most if not all of the competition. That, together with the batteries, makes the monitor a little bigger than some (2-5/8" wide x 1-3/4" deep by 4-3/4" tall plus a 1-1/2" antenna, for 6-1/4" total), but it's not really a problem as it only needs to be portable, not pocketable.

GOOD AUDIO: The audio quality is good, and doesn't seem to be subject to a time delay (like some monitors). You can hear a baby breathing if you want to. There is a wide range of audio settings from loud to quiet to off, so it works in a noisy kitchen or when the shower is running, on one hand, or in the bedroom at night, on the other hand. It's a little unfortunate that the audio doesn't sound a little more natural and accurate, so you could get every nuance. But at least the audio doesn't seem like an afterthought, like it does on some monitors.

NO STATIC: There is no static or interference on the audio or video, at least for us. While that may seem amazing if you're new to digital monitors, it's an old technology - phones have had this for years.

USEFUL PAN: The camera has a motorized mount, and you can turn it through a wide range of motion to see the area you want to see. There's a joystick on the monitor used to control it, and it works fairly well. It's not silent when it moves, but not very loud.

USABLE ZOOM: There are just two zoom levels (not continuous, as with the pan). It works well enough, and is a nice feature.

PRIVATE: The digital technology used for transmitting not only avoids static, but is also private.

DECENT RANGE: We don't need much range, so have never had any issues. But it's a real shame the product info talks about 350' range, that's going to mislead people, as an insert in the box makes it clear that's not realistic. It says you should expect that "Optimal distance for normal in home use is 15-60 feet."

One tip, you normally want to point the antenna so it's perpendicular to where the monitor is. So if you're using the monitor on the same floor, point the antenna vertically; if you're using the monitor on a floor above or below, point the antenna horizontally.

OTHER FEATURES: There's a button on the top you can use to turn the video on and off, either to conserve batteries or just to not have the distraction.

The power adapters work on US or international voltages, which can come in handy.

BATTERIES: I was a disappointed to find this uses NiMH batteries, rather than the smaller, more powerful (and more expensive) LiOn type. On balance, though, it's probably fine for most people. It probably helps keep the cost down, and even though it's bulkier the monitor doesn't really need to be as portable as a cell phone would.

And, since this uses three standard AA rechargeable batteries, you can easily replace them - rather than this needing expensive or hard to find battery replacements. It's weak that they only supply batteries with a capacity of 2000 mah, as 2650 mah batteries are widely available. But you can easily install your own replacements.

I can't comment yet on how long the batteries last, I'll have to do more tests and check back on that.

INTERFERENCE: There's no question that this can interfere with wireless networks or other devices that use 2.4 GHZ. Summer Infant has better customer support than most other consumer electronics companies, but they strangely don't seem to have spent any time trying to figure out how to help people with this issue. ("Buy a different router" was the advice I got. Right. The product insert also suggests you just stop using other 2.4 Ghz products, that's somewhere between laughable and insulting.)

If you're experiencing problems, try moving the monitor or the other devices so they aren't too close to one another. Try changing the router settings to use another channel, maybe Channel 1.

OTHER ISSUES: The volume is a little inconvenient to use, you have to go into the menu and use the joystick. Given that's the control we use the most, it seems odd.

While the camera pans over a wide range, the design keeps it from aiming downward very far. So one of the most common locations for a video monitor - on a shelf or dresser, a few feet above a crib or out of a toddler's reach - doesn't work unless you tilt the whole camera forward. Not that hard to do, but not what I'd expect.

The menu seems to be modeled after a video pong game my mom got for free for opening an account at the savings & loan in the early 1970s.

As mentioned in other reviews, the (sort of) flashing lights on the camera and (sort of) flashing video are kind of annoying. Even in a bright room, the bright flash keeps catching my eye making me think the baby moved, then I realize it was just the monitor and not the baby. It's hard to figure how why they did that.

Someone there does deserve a whack in the head for letting this product out the door with a big bright LED on the camera.

VIDEO MONITORS - MUCH MORE THAN A GIMMICK

When I got our first video monitor, I wondered if it would be useful, or just a gimmick, or one more way to worry about the baby! We've found it very useful. There are just some things that an audio monitor can't tell you. And being able to check on your child without the disturbance of going into her room can save a lot of trouble, especially in the transition times in the evening and in the morning, when little disturbances can lead to bigger ones.

The video was especially useful when our child was a little older and moving around more, and we had left her to settle herself - which sometimes can seem like crying herself to sleep! :-( We used the video monitor to see if she was just unsettled (so we very much did not want to go into the room, or she wouldn't learn to settle herself) or had gotten into a spot she couldn't get out of (stuck in the bars of the crib, or lost her lovey, so we needed to go in and set things right). Video monitors are also useful to see when a child is awake, and how awake - sitting, standing, lying down or trying to climb out of bed! - or on her way to sleep, or not. And they can be lots of fun, too, to watch and listen!

Our other monitor is analog, and once in a while we'd hear our neighbor talking on their cordless phone - which no doubt means they hear us sometimes! A digital monitor, like the Best View, should be private and static-free.

Has a major flaw please read if you want to use at night
So first I will say I have tried many cameras and this one is great. It has a great picture and great sound. The pan and zoom feature is great. I have no interference from my wireless internet or cordless phones.

However it has three flaws and one is major.

The first is the lights that let you know the baby is crying only work when the volume is turned up. Also the louder the volume on the monitor is turned up the more lights that light up even if the baby is crying at the same level. The issue is you can't simply have the volume tuned down or low and watch the monitor to see if the baby is crying. This is useful if you are on the phone or the monitor is sitting on your desk or even if your spouse is sleeping and you have the monitor and don't want the sound to wake them. The lights should light up no matter that volume you have the monitor on.

The second issue is adjusting the volume. You have to go into the menu to do this because there are no volume controls on the unit. So as an example at night if the video on the monitor is shut off and the baby starts crying you can't just turn the volume up or down you need to wake the video on the monitor then hit menu then adjust the volume.

The third issue which is major and is why it needs to go back is in nightvision. Every 5 seconds or so the picture flashes bight light on the monitor. I went in and looked at the camera and it turns out that the LED lights that are used for nightvision on the camera actual are flashing off and on about every five seconds which is what is causing this. It's very distracting and the only camera I have ever seen do this including regular video cameras in nightvision mode and other 900mhz and 2.4 baby monitors.

I assumed it was defective and called Summers and they knew exactly what I was talking about right away. The people that answered the phone said it was normal. I told her that I can't believe this is normal and it must be a defect in the way it was manufactured, she told me she understands what I am saying but that's what she has been told and maybe it has something to do with that fact that its 2.4, which makes no sense has I have other ones that are 2.4 and don't do this.

It's really too bad and I'm still hoping this is a defect in the way they are making them and something they will fix. In the mean time this is going back and I'll wait till they address it.

Pretty good but some bad engineering choices
This has good video and audio quality, which makes it better than the other video monitors out there. That's something.

So why take away from that with a few things that make no sense at all:

What is with the flashing red lights on the camera? Sure they aren't that bright, but they are visible AND they go off briefly about every 5 seconds. That's all my baby can look at. Maybe it won't be a problem long term. But I know these lights for night illumination can be invisible, other monitors are. Even Summer Infant makes some where the baby doesn't have to see the night vision lights. And they sure don't need to go on and off.

And, because the night vision lights on the camera go out, it makes the video on the monitor pulsate in brightness every 5 seconds or so too. It's still usable, just really annoying when you have the video on in a room that's low or no light. Flash .... flash .... flash ...

And last of all, for goodness sakes when will they figure out that you don't put a huge bright green LED on the front of a baby monitor camera, just to let you know the power is connected? If I want a nightlight (or a spotlight, sheesh), I'll get one!

They need to let a few real moms use the products before they release them, and listen to what they say.

The LW1020 is an overall well planned product. When connected to a TV or VCR for recording, the image quality for both day and night settings is very good. The wireless feature is also a plus and reduces the wire clutter when mounting to a wall. The problems with this unit arise when the user wants to connect to a PC and view the video stream over the internet. The software that the unit comes with is extremely buggy and causes endless computer freezes that are only remedied by uninstalling the software. Customer service was very rude and degrading and did not help solve the computer crashes. Don't expect this product to solve your security needs.

Has to be the best monitor out there.
My husband and I are expecting our first child in September. We received this amazing baby monitor as a shower gift.

I just have to say that once we took it out and got it working, which was easy, it was amazing. The quality of the monitor is so clear and the color and night vision work great. When we went to try out the night vision, we actually thought we had left a light on.

The camera itself is a clean design and a perfect size to place anywhere. It also has a great scan feature and the area in which it can view, covers our whole 11x20 nursery (left to right and top to bottom).

The audio works great and the headphones are a great feature for when I want to hear him, but my husband is sound asleep next to me. I also like how I can either have the monitor plugged in or put batteries in it and take it with me around the house. It's very light weight and the screen is just the right size.

This monitor also has other amazing features that we just love.

1) We can easily set up software on our computer that allows others to view the camera (up to 8 at a time) from their house, when they set it up too. This is something I really enjoy because our family and friends are in other states, but we can still share special moments with the baby in the room. It's almost like they are there with us. (Don't worry you can shut the program off if you don't want anyone viewing. i.e. breastfeeding).
2) My husband likes the tv feature. He can plug in a few things into our tv and have a small pop up screen in the corner. So my husband can watch tv and keep an eye on our little one.

I honestly never really review items, but this was too awesome to not mention. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Does what it claims it does!
As long as you read and understand how this product works and don't expect a lot more, you should be extremely happy with the product as I am.
Since my baby was born (he's now 17mos), I used the Graco monitor (just audio). It's a wonderful product, but over time, I found video would be of great help to avoid going into his room to check on him and possibly waking him up. - Long story short... it sounded like this sharx baby monitor would be perfect. Video, Audio, NIGHTVISION! and remote control of the camera! WOW. Almost too good to be true for the price. But it really does do it and wonderfully! Although the audio isn't like the Graco monitor, it's still great. The Video quality is fantastic and the nightvision is better than I ever imagined. It's really cool.
I was worried because my husband's a computer geek so we have tons of computer accessories and gadgets and on a wi-fi network. It turns out not to be an issue since it's all mostly in the living room and we mostly use the video monitor in our bedroom.
We have cordless phones, but they're 5.8ghz which don't cause interference.
We rent in a 2 family home in NYC (neighbors everywhere, semi-detached homes) which had me worried that we'd catch interference somewhere, but somehow, it doesn't. It works perfectly fine.
The only time I have a bit of trouble is when we take the monitor into the living room, it starts to get a bit staticky. Not horrible, but not clear. But that's ok, since I mostly want it when I'm trying to sleep and hear the baby, but don't want to wake him up further by going to check on him unnecessarily.
Furthermore, before purchasing the product, I called the manufacturer to get more information. They were of great help! I feel confident that if I needed or wanted to call them again with questions, they'd do whatever they can to help.

This video monitor is very clear in the day time and at night in total darkness. I love the tilt feature cause my little one does a lot of moving around in her sleep. It is very easy also to set up and easy to use. The video monitor is not too small and very lightweight so it is easily carried around throughout the house. Compact, But Not Perfect
I bought this camera as a replacement for a VHS-C camera that I never did manage to use because it was just too cumbersome. The HandyCam SR45 is certainly small -- it fits in my purse! But it does have a few flaws I wish I had realized before purchasing.

First of all, it doesn't have a wide-angle lens. That is an optional accessory. This limits my filmmaking abilities more than I realized it would. Secondly, it dosn't have a viewfinder. You are forced to use the viewscreen at all times. In bright sun you can't see the image on the viewscreen at all, so without the option of switching to the viewfinder it's hit and miss if you are filming what you think you are filming.

And the last major challenge I have is that it records in MPEG2 format. This is the format (I guess) that you need to output directly to DVD. But for editing, this is not the best format. To edit in Windows Movie Maker you have to convert the file types and the quality tanks. I am looking at some MPEG2 editors right now, but I hear that editing right in MPEG2 format you lose some ability to make fine-tune edits.

On the plus side, I never have to buy tapes for this thing, and with something like 6 hours of recording built in at the highest quality I doubt I'll even need to buy memory cards for it. (Even on a great vacation, over 6 hours of footage is too much! Edit yourself!!) No running out of room in the middle of something exciting happening.

The lens cap is built in, which is also great, but I'm forgetting to close it all the time. And the 40x Optical Zoom is fantastic! It takes some great up-close shots without having to get up-close. And transferring to JPEG for still shots is easy with the new software I'm trying, and the stills look great.

And the nightshooting is really cool, too. I just don't know if I'll ever use it other than to torment my cat.

Overall it's a nice little camera, but there is room for improvement.

As good as any of the other Camcorders in this price range.

The last time I bought a camcorder was in 1994, when my first Daughter was born. It was an 8mm Panasonic. Since then I have bought Point and Shoots and SRL Digitals that really impressed me. I was so used to the quality of my Canon Rebel, that I just assumed that a new cam corder would get me the same quality or close to it!
I put down my $408.00 (got a deal) on a new Sony DCR-SR45. I like the Carl Ziess lenses and thought this has got to give me good quality! I also was impressed that it was all on a hard drive..30gb drive is more than enough for my needs.

. The HandyCam SR45 fit right in my hand, it weighs less then my Canon Rebel(with the 50mm lens) and is pretty easy to use. I love the touch screen...but then it came time to test the camera out....
My first test was in my Home office...and it looked grainy. I checked the settings and it was set to "SP" so I set it to "HQ" and tried again....Still grainy.
I decided that maybe it is just too little light in my office, so I waited until the next day to try it outside. I did...it looked fine through the 2.7 inch view screen, but porting it to my Computer, I just thought the quality should be a lot better...I mean...its 2008 and this did not seem to be a better quality than my old Panasonic Tape camcorder.
I was upset. I called Sony and they had me do a reset and try again....Still looked about the same....The telephoto was impressive, but the regular video was not up to my standard. The photo stills are just a joke...don;t think this is going to replace your point and shoot on vacation...it is just not able to at ALL...pretend that function does not exist.
So I was all set to send this back to the seller..I had it bundled up and the RMA on the box.. But I decided to go shopping once again and compare this model to others in the price range (I am not about to spend $1000 for a camcorder that I use only on Holidays, trips and Graduations)..So I looked at the quality of the video in the $340-$600 price range and came to the realization that this Camcorder is really on par with the others.
It was my own perception of what it should have been that was wrong.
So I went home and compared my two point and shoots that do Video Clips (Kodak and Nikon)and my old Camcorder and realized that this the quality of this camcorder is better!
I still give it a 3 star, because
1) Photo Still Images are just a joke!
2) The software stinks.
3) I am being picky, But I would have liked it if the lens cover closes automatically when the camera is shut off. I forget and leave the lens open....its just asking for trouble!
4) Battery that comes with the camcorder lasts about 45 minutes.
I would suggest getting a 6.5 hour extra battery...use that as the primary and use the one they gave you as a backup.

Great Camera, Great Price
I bought this camera 2 weeks ago and I must say, it's really neat. The quality of the camera while recording at first was a little less than I expected it to be, but that's because I had the recording mode in LP (medium quality) so I put it at the highest (HQ) and everything looked fine.

Honestly, the best things about this camera is that it's very small, can fit in the palm of your hand with ease.

The next thing is the Night Vision mode, this is the best, I was able to record in TOTAL DARKNESS inside my house (w/ all lights off) and I could still see things!

Last major noticeable thing is the fact that you don't have to keep changing discs every 30 minutes to record new video. You can record straight to the Hard Disk for up to 9 hours at the highest quality!

Listen, if you're looking for a good quality, small compact video camera for under $500, get this. It's a really good camera and a really good deal. Thanks, Sony!

Best Video Monitor I Have Used
I have tried many different baby video cameras with the first baby. The mediocre MobiCam Ultra just died and I need a new monitor to work with kid #1 and #2. This monitor is excellent!!! The picture and sound are crystal clear through out our entire house. This monitor has a feature where it turns on when it senses noise from the baby and it works like a dream. It's the best. I have not yet tried with 2 cameras but will shortly. It's definitely worth the little extra money. Jump in!

Great baby monitor.
I bought this for my son and his wife to use with their first baby. He had no problems hooking it. The baby arrived a week ago so they haven't used it for long and haven't tried out all the features, such as recording to video, yet. They are very happy with the basic functions.

Beatiful, nice design, interference free BUT poor range
I love this product the only problem I have with it is the range.
I have a two bedroom condo. My son sleeps about 30 feet from me and sometimes the range gets weak and fades. Also, sometimes, from the same location, I loose signal. So far only twice but still kind of concerning since the idea is not to have to "monitor" the monitor but trust it will be working at all times within a tested range.

Something else I have experienced is the image flicks from time to time for like a fraction of a second. That is not a problem for me. Image quality is crystal clear. The automated IF works works really well.

Interference, I'm into the hobby of remote control helicopters and planes so I have an expensive, "long range" RC radio which strongly interferes with other 2.4 systems. Not this one, not even a blink when it's put next to it.
I haven't been able to test how secured it is but soon I hope.

Great Headlamp at a Great Price

I love the fact that this uses LEDs and common (AAA) batteries. This is very bright - plenty of light for anything I might want to do. The fact that it has a Red LED, to preserve night vision, is icing on the cake. I ordered one the first time around, then went back and ordered several more to be used as gifts. (My nephew is going to love it!)

Update: Subtract 1 star because I found it turned on in the pocket of my backpack. (It appears that the slider switch moves a bit too easily. I may try something like a rubber band wrapped around the light to try to keep the switch from moving.)

On the other hand, add back 1/2 star due to the fact that the light swivels up and down so you can direct the light where you need it.

Still comes out at 4.5 stars for me.

I love the red led option. I use it for reading star charts when taking kids on astronomy hikes.

This is a great product, and toy.
I purchased one recently, and I love it! It's very light weight since it uses LED bulbs, and is very bright. I bought it for myself, but it turns out the kids love it too. They strap it on and play explorer, and they love the red bulb feature. I'm buying them as gifts for all my nephews.

My first impression is that this pen/led has avoided the pitfalls that have ruined similar products.

1. The led light is super bright and doesn't appear to rely on the ink cartridge to carry the electrical charge.
2. The ability to turn on and off the led light is independent from the pen.
3. The pen is retractable and the ink is easily replaceable.
4. It uses the widely available AAA battery - a few of which you probably have a few sitting around the house.
5. The metal clip is well made and surprisingly compact.
6. The footprint of the pen is also compact.

If you are looking for a pen/led combo, I highly recommend this one.

The Best Light-Up Pen of Over a Dozen I've Purchased!
Okay, I'm gushing on this product. No I am in no way connected with the sales of this. You can check on my bio if you wish. I review products I am downright enthusiastic about. This pen is one I am downright nuts over. Why? I am a mobile executive-writer-idea person. The app for me is not connected to flying but writing various dimly lit environments. I coach many similarly minded people. This piece of equipment is worth crowing about.
1. It just plain works. In a day of under-performing when something comes along that meets a high felt need it is worth getting on the soap box and crowing. This one has me extending my credibility over.
2. It is bright but not blindingly bright. I use it in lots of environments that are dimly lit - it is 'Just right' as Golidlocks stated so well.
3. It feels great - writes well.
4. It comes with two refills (which is plenty of ink to last me for a while about enough ink - I'm probably in good shape with this thing unless I decide to write my next book by hand and entirely in dim lighting!)
5. It is sustainable. There are plenty of cool-looking pens out there under the 'fancy schmancy' heading. The catch however is the battery must be replaced sooner than later. All of those batteries I've been into are relatively costly and difficult to find. Over a couple of years of usage the previously 'Cool' pen becomes a pain in the tail. Before buying another light up pen / your next light up pen, ponder your inevitable trek to the mall to a 'Batteries R Us' kind of kiosk. Do you really want the pain and hassle of that rigamarole? It's not for me. I would rather write, get ideas than feed the pen's hunger for obscure batteries.

This pen takes AAA batteries you already have in abundance in your office or home!

If you are an idea person like me who gets thoughts at various times and places and must capture them whenever and however those ideas fly your way - this pen is the best one on the market. I use a laptop continually, but ideas are like manna - they come as provision for my concept jigsaw puzzle. I can't fire up my laptop when I'm watching a film, concert, listening to someone chat on a plane on a dimly lit flight. Such a pen is invaluable.
I have a couple of them. I've given a few away a couple. If it were slightly less in price I would show care to others by giving this away regularly I suspect.

Best pen ever!
This pilot's pen is fantastic: I'm an academic and I grade exams, proof-read my own writing or mark up books and articles wherever I go. This pen has a great feel, writes well, and most importantly, it provides that extra light when I need it - - on airplanes, in the car, at the doctor's office in the waiting room, and everywhere else. This pen beats any of the high-priced name brand pens I have on my desk. I also bought the pilot's pen as a gift for my 75-year old father who uses it every day for crossword puzzles and sudoku. He just loves that pen and he tells everyone proudly that he is using a pilot's pen. It's so hard to buy a gift for him and for not even $20 I found something that he uses every day and that makes his favorite pastime easier to see. Moreover, the battery and the ink last forever. Both my dad and I have been using the pen daily for over six months now and we're still on the original battery and ink. Two thumbs up for this great pen! Buy more than one!

Save your money
I purchased this as an option to a driveway alarm. I have a home office, and have an obstructed view of my driveway. I really liked the idea of being able to use Batteries vs Hard wiring the cameras. Unfortunately these cameras have a working range from the wireless receiver of about 5 feet. After that lots of static, and poor picture quality. I followed the instructions and tried every frequency but the same static poor quality image continued. Although, I bought this one due to the battery option on the camera, I even tried the A/C adapter thinking it could be a power problem. The box says 150-300 range (line of site) HA. Not even 10 feet before noticeable loss of image 20 feet worthless.

Security for a good price
For a low price at a local store that "Costless in bulk" I found this to be a bargin in wireless security. Fry's does have deals with other companies/brands but for the stats and price I just had to have it. So far it's hooked up to a DVDR and set for 6hrs and works just great. The only thing I would recomend is to get a motion sensor light also on the area being screened so that your picture is in color and not B&W.
I like this brand better than some of the other companies because of the price and features. BTW I do also use Web cam for security monitoring.

Have had these cams in use almost a month. Good for daytime surveillance. Not so much at night. They are outside and have weathered some severe storms.For the money I don't think they can be beat.

Pleasantly Surprised
I own an 11 year old car and the headlights had become significantly glazed over. The only thing the drill doesnt come with is a drill. (which would really drive up the cost of the kit) The steps are pretty easy to restore your headlight

1. Clean the headlight and tape around the headlight edgeds to protect the paint job.
2. Use the "yellow" sanding disk with the drill attachment. The headlight will take on a more cloudy, but uniform, appearance
3. Use the "white" disk and smooth out the surface
4. Use the "gray" disk (with water) and begin the polishing of the surface
5. Finally use the "orange" foam disk with the polishing compound and complete the job.

Instructions are included with the kit and are pretty straightforward. I would say that anyone can do this job in approximately 2 hours or less. The drill attachment is WELL worth the money.

I was actually able to do two cars with one kit. Obviously this will depend on the condition of your headlights. I would recommend buying one kit per car though.

When using the kit I actually wiped off the "dust" that was created between steps. This wasnt mentioned in the instructions but I dont feel that it effected the results either. If you do the same thing then you will not see much of the "white slurry" described in the instructions when using the gray disk.

I hope this review helps and I will try to check back later to see if anyone has some comments that need answering.

SAVED ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS
WOW! I drive a 12 year old car that is in very good shape, with the exception of the headlight lenses. I looked into replacements, they were priced at over $100 each, ouch! So while in the local AutoZone I found this kit for 17 bucks, and thought why not give it a try. It took less than an hour to have my headlights looking like new. It was also very easy to use, with all the supplies in the kit all I had to furnish was a drill. Easy, Inexpensive, and it works! I will tell everyone I know how great this product is!!

Shining Results
I was a bit sceptical about how effective this product could be for its relatively very low price. The competitive "3 and 4 stage" type products cost at least three times the price and are a lot more involved to apply. However, the 3M results were truly impressive. You do have to follow the instructions and be sure to use the foam cushion backing pad included in the kit as well as a drill with the recommended RPMs. With that said, you will get truly impressive results at a cost less than any other do-it-yourself product and certainly well below the hundred dollar plus you would have to pay a professional shop. Definitely a "best buy" and highly recommended!

Cheap, and not reliable
This device is cheaply made, and for clear picture the range is barely 8-9 feet, after that you get lots of noise and your picture start to jump. not worth it and i will return mine since not usefull at all.

Great for the price. You must position the units correctly to get a good signal. Once set up correctly you get what you paid for. For me, it works fine for what I need.
Try not to mount the cameras inside the glass looking out your windows.

A good deal , but not without limitations
This is a good camera for $50 but it does have some limitations that more expensive cameras do not suffer from. The picture is decent, nothing special, and the night vision is OK for about 10-15'...but the lack of a wide angle lens makes this camera not very usable for monitoring areas like your front door. You need to mount it at a far distance to get a wide field of view and since its nightvision is only fair that kills its performance.

All in all, decent unit for $50, but the nightvision performance and narrow field of view really hurt when compared to CCD cams like Topica's. Good for a CMOS camera but no match for a slightly (OK..over twice the price) more expensive CCD camera.

Solid Construction & Easy to Install
This is my first security cam purchase. Installation could not have been easier. The 60 feet of cable was more than enough to pull through the attic and through a 1/2" hole for the connector to pass through at the installation location. Video quality is great, and the sound quality is much better than would have expected (I can even pipe in bird songs from outside). The little camera feels very sturdy in its machined aluminum housing. No problems with the adjustment.

Night vision range is okay if you install within about 10 feet of the subject.

I'm very happy with it, especially the price.

This has to be one of the best deals for a color camera that has night vision capabilities. I am completely satisfied with this camera. Very solid housing, plenty of cable included and good quality for the price. Worth every penny, plan on purchasing several more.

TIPS IN SETTING UP YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM Please find the below handy setup tips for your security system:

For best results do NOT point the camera towards a light source such as the sun or light.
Also do not have the camera in a shaded area looking out into a well lit area as this will display poor results. Example: If the camera is hidden in a mailbox, because the mailbox is dark inside the camera sensor will try to adjust according to the available light. But if outside the mailbox there is good light like sunshine, you will get poor results. The light to the camera sensor in the front of the camera needs to be the same as the light at the focal target for best results.
Power for Wired and Wireless Cameras, both types of cameras require a power source, although the camera maybe weatherproof the connections to the AV cable and power adapter are not. Please make sure that these connections are in a water or moisture free environment.
Over time the lens or front case glass may become dirty, please use a lint free cloth to clean both. Similar cloth that would be used to clean a CD Disc.

Very Clean Picture, Telephoto

Probably the best speed dome for the money
Q-see makes 2 primary speed domes - the LG camera Q-see Outdoor Speed Dome Camera Lg 27X Solution 12X Zoom and the Sony camera which costs a bit more. The PTZ cameras need a controller DVR with PTZ functionality such as Q-See QSNDVR16M 16 Channel MPEG-4 Pentaplex Network Digital Video Recorder (No Hard Drive) I am using one of each PTZ camera in my system to cover the outside complemented with less expensive fixed cameras that get closeup shots where people must walk and have found you get what you pay for. The PTZ advantage is that you can steer your camera 360 degrees in rotation, tilt it from the sky to the ground, and zoom in 260-270x, but only 26-27x of that is optical zoom and beyond 60x it gets pretty noisy. Still 60X of usable zoom can really tell you what is happening.

Sony's hits: It has the super-HAD CCD sensor with night vision capability - the LG does not. Quieter - the LG has some really noisy fans running (3 of them) almost all the time. The sony uses just one blower. Features - the sony again trumps the LG in the number of features available. Video Quality - I found the LG to be a bit grainy while the sony presents a smooth image. Finally the sony makes a real beautiful image - in color - at night. Finally the first LG I got had a defective main bearing assembly and fell apart during installation while the sony is secured in with 4 screws and much better made.

As for ease of setup, standards, etc - they are a wash. Both install equally well and have protection from winter or summer temperatures. Both allow you to have the camera "zip" to a predefined location when an alarm is triggered by your alarm system at that place, then record it on tape.

What you really get for the extra money on the sony is the night vision capability and the overall better quality in picture and in construction. During the day both camera models work fine.

Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) is a TV host who accompanies a firefighting unit on a disturbance call at a decrepit apartment building. Once inside, the group discovers that the tenants are infected with a disease that has turned them into ravenous cannibals--and that all possible exits have been sealed off by a government-issued quarantine. As POV horror goes, QuarantineThe Blair Witch Project with the super-sized shocks of Cloverfield (without its nausea-inducing camerawork), and it largely delivers in both departments. Characters are stock at best, and the relentless jumping and shrieking gets wearying before the end credits, but the cast is game, especially Carpenter (a world class screamer, as established in The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and Jay Hernandez as one of the firemen, and the technical aspects (including some gruesome gore) are top-notch. -- Paul Gaita

Dumb Behavior
This should have been an excellent film because viewers already know the actors are very good from watching The Practice, Dexter, and other shows. The script portrayed the reporter, firemen, policemen and others to behave unprofessionally and sometimes in just plain foolish ways which made it hard for viewers to relate to them or the movie.

Movie Spoilers

Someone is experimenting with a rabies type disease in the attic of an apartment building. Max, a dog belonging to 5 year old, Briana, gets the disease possibly from an infected laboratory rat. Briana's father takes the dog to the veterinarian leaving an infected Briana and her mother at the apartment. The little girl or her dog infected an elderly woman and her dog. The elderly woman is screaming and acting crazy so police/firemen are called to the scene taking along a reporter and her cameraman along for a story. The city quarantines the building while everyone is in there because the Max the dog at the vet clinic attacks everyone and the dog is wearing a tag with its address on it so they know where it lived. Police, firemen, reporters and apartment renters are trapped in the building while the city police tell outside reporters everyone has been evacuated. There is a veterinarian in the building who says tears, saliva and fever and death occurs to anyone bitten.

Pro
1. The cameraman, Scott Percival was a true professional. He hung onto the camera through it all and even put it down still rolling at times to assist his fellow survivors when they were attacked including his reporter co-worker. He even continuously comforts his hysterical reporter co-worker who pays him back by deserting him.

2. The last fireman Jake is also professional and courageous. He was going to kill an infected woman when trapped in an apartment with others and another idiot prevented him from doing so. That woman attacked them all later. Fireman Fletcher is also a hero.

3. Firehouse mascot Wilshire the Dalmatian and his stop, drop and roll routine if caught on fire was educational and amusing.

Con
1. The last policeman Danny Wilensky acts completely unprofessional. This guy initially pulled a gun on the fireman, reporter, cameraman and renter when he finds them trying to escape. He knows people are dying around them and if bitten, they are infected and he foolishly wants to obey the order of a superior officer who turned off the electricity to their building and lied to the city saying they were evacuated. This policeman sees people getting bitten and sees little Briana bite her mother. He stupidly handcuffs the infected soon to be violent mother to the staircase endangering anyone coming up and down the stairs. Then he runs after little Briana KNOWING she is dangerous and infected and says "take my hand".when her mouth is bloody and she is crazed. He had the gall to act surprised when she bit him.

2. The young professional female reporter Angela Vidal is truly pathetic. She never helps anyone who gets attacked especially towards the end. Yet, she expects the cameraman and the one remaining fireman to help her when she is attacked. She screams and jumps at every sound giving away their position and clings to the men. Her Blair Witch filming towards the end was only missing the snotty nose. The film photo above shows 2 hands and no weapon. She is in a lab with glass equipment, chairs, and lab chemicals and all sorts of things that can act as improvised weapons but she just whines. It was truly disgusting for a modern professional woman to behave this way. There was a kind of satisfaction when she didn't make it either.

3. Too cliched. The mother over reacting to the idea that her quite clearly infected 5 year old be isolated in other room was just too cliched. If this woman had other children, she would not have acted like this and as a mother she should have wanted to protect the other children and people in the building. She could have stayed with her daughter in isolation. Instead the mother fights off the others from getting to her daughter and the mother gets bitten/infected and the infected child runs off to attack/infect others later.

A tense and chilling horror film...
I really liked "Quarantine" despite the number of people who bash it. Yes, it's an example of a serious and debilitating problem in the US horror movie genre right now in that it's a remake of another movie. I'm sure most horror fans like myself are tired of seeing unnecessary remakes of classic horror movies we've already seen and are ready to see some original stories being written. However, when the film in question is a remake of a foreign-language film and it sticks to the original concept and story, then I don't have so much of a problem. And so it is with "Quarantine".

Yes, it's a remake of the Spanish movie [*REC]. Since the two films are almost identical, I prefer this one since I don't have to take my eyes off the action to read subtitles. "Quarantine" is a claustrophobic, tense, and chilling little film and I enjoyed it very, very much. Jennifer Carpenter put in a great performance, as did the rest of the cast, and if you enjoy good horror movies you will enjoy this one. Is it a milestone in the horror film genre? No. But then again, milestones are few and far between, hence the term. I *can* tell you that "Quarantine" is the most memorable horror film I've seen since it premiered in US theaters and pretty much kept me on the edge of my seat once things kicked into gear.

My only qualm with the DVD release is the price. $19.95 for a single edition DVD with so few extras? Come on... Not cool, guys.

Far better than the previews would lead you to believe.
Quarantine is a much better movie than its previews would lead you to believe. Previews make it look like people are trapped in an old building with zombies running amok in it. Maybe they came up from the sewers.

In fact it follows a reality TV reporter who is following an LA fire crew on calls. They go to a building when neighbors have reported screams coming from the apartment of an old lady. What follows is the outbreak of a savage, mind destroying disease where tenants and first responders find them sealed in with those already infected, by the CDC.

Like Cloverfield and Blair Witch, the film is shot from the single camera view of the reality reporter's camera man. Unlike those films the camera work is clean and does not distract the viewer. Watch the long shot when a call comes as the camera man has to follow the reporter down a hall, a flight of stairs and into a truck and realize it was all done in one take without cuts. The first 20 minutes of the film are the `reality show' walking around the fire house, talking to members of the fire crew and setting the stage by letting you meet the key players in the film. This is clearly the set up but it doesn't feel stilted. You don't feel like saying `get on with it" because you care about the characters. Carpenter, as the on air talent is likeable and believable, going from bubbly on air talent, to real reporter as things turn serious to scared human as she realizes just how deep in they are. And she takes the viewer with her.

Previews make this look like just another zombie film. There are certainly elements of that in Quarantine but for the genre it is so much better than much of the competition. They even have an explanation, scary in how reasonable it is, for what is happening. Is it "Sound of Music?" of course not. It is a horror film, but one in which the director has taken a lot of care to make the whole thing frighteningly possible.

Simple security with room for expansion
The Lorex LW2201 Weatherproof Ultra Wireless Surveillance System works as well as advertised. I only have a few minor gripes about the system.

The set-up is incredibly simple. Just plug the power supplies into the camera and into the receiver, screw on the antennas, and plug the A/V cables into some kind of monitor/TV. My camera was already paired with the unit, so I didn't have to do anything else. Pairing the wireless unit with the camera, or another camera is simple, just push 1 button on the receiver and a big yellow button on the camera and it's good to go. They claim the pairing function securely connects your camera to your receiver so that no one else can grab hold of your camera's frequency, but I have no way to test that. I'll just take their word for it. The unit comes with a small arm stand for the camera, and a couple screws to mount it. You might need extra screw mounting pieces if you want to mount it into something like brick, though. Regardless, set-up and installation is a snap.

The image is very good in daylight. However, the night vision is only "acceptable" quality. The far-red LED lights create a bit of a halo effect around the center of the camera's lens. So everything in the center of the image looks clear at 20-25ft or less, but the stuff on the periphery of the center of the image is a little darker and fuzzier. Still, you can see what's going on. Also, be sure to note that you can see the red LED lights of the camera. This is good if you want everyoen to know that you have a camera, but if you want a more stealthy hidign spot for your camera, it's definitely going to give it away. The mic works well at about 25 ft or less, but after that it definitely tails off.

So to sum up the problems: I think the night vision image is a little bad at the edges of the image, the mic isn't all that great at longer distances, my unit had one dead LED bulb on it (I don't think it really affected the image quality by itself), and the far-red LEDs are not truly infrared so you can see them with the naked eye.

The problems I stated are pretty minor in nature, though. The Lorex system is solid and you can expand it to include 4 total cameras, and even view them simultaneously split-screen in your monitor. Overall, I recommend this unit for a simple security solution.

Very decent for its intended purpose.
I live in apartments with windows facing the parking lot. For some time now, I have thought about hooking up a webcam of some kind and pointing it out the window towards where I parked. The logistics of running a long USB cable from my computer to the appropriate window prevented me from doing it that way. A wireless WiFi webcam might be the perfect solution, but not everyone has a WiFi network (and these cameras can be a bit pricey).

The Lorex LW2201 is an interesting compromise between legacy equipment (old fashioned cameras) and modern wireless technology. The camera itself is designed to be usable outdoors, meaning it is in a rugged metal enclosure complete with an adjustable hood that slides forward to cover and protect the camera lens. It is a color camera, but in low-light conditions, it clicks in to "night vision" mode and the image goes to black and white. A ring of infrared LED lights around the lens light up, allowing you to see an image even in complete darkness. There are no wires -- the camera has an antenna that attaches to the back, and a power cable that plugs in to an AC adapter. Bolt the base somewhere, run the power cable, and you are set from that side.

Elsewhere, a tiny receiver -- about the size of a deck of playing cards -- can be plugged in, and an antenna is attached to allow it to receive video from the camera. Video and audio outputs come out of the receiver (cables are included) and then run to a monitor or TV, or in to a recording device. If you just wanted to keep tabs on your car overnight, you could use a cheap VCR and let it record in 6-8 hour mode.

Overall, setup of one camera to the one receiver is very simple. The receiver can support multiple cameras, and can be set to flip between the cameras (full screen), or split the screen up to display four images at a time. I cannot comment on those features, as I only have the one camera. A button is pressed on the receiver to get it in to a scanning more, then you have to press a button on the camera within 30 seconds to let them sync to each other. It seems easy enough.

The camera does have sound, so if it is mounted outside, you can hear a bit of what is going on, but don't expect miracles. It's not quite as sensitive as a home movie camera typically is. So, overall, you have wireless color (in light) or black and white (in darkness) video with sound, transmitted to a receiver within a few hundred feet.

Now, the downsides:

First, range is very limited unless you have an open area with no obstructions. I hooked the received up to a TV in my livingroom, then tried to use the camera in the bedroom connected to the same wall that the TV is against. Even though the range was only about 15 feet between camera and receiver, signal quality was too poor to lock on. This was due to the bedroom having several large metal shelving units which obstruct the signal. If the room was empty, I doubt there would be such problems.

Video quality is also quite poor. The camera sends a digital picture that looks more like a YouTube video than a video camera image. You can toggle between high speed but low resolution (thus, motion is good but image is blocky), or a slower high resolution image. In bright light, the high resolution image looks very good -- a bit "digital" but totally watchable. The frame rate slows way down, though, so it comes across looking like a traditional security camera clip you'd see on a TV news program.

Overall, the camera seems well built and designed, but wired cameras I have seen provided a better picture than this wireless system. However, in situations like mine, a wireless solution is a MUCH easier choice. As long as you can tap in to power, you can mount this camera anywhere within range and get a totally usable image without any wiring or network configurations.

For my specific uses, though, I think my next effort will be with a WiFi camera. Since I already have a network which completely covers my home, that may produce better results than this dedicated security system.

Instructions were clear, packaging was nice, and setup was simple. It does what it does, and the wireless "plug and go" is very neat. Just keep in mind the designed use -- picture quality may be worse than you expect, and range may be more limited than you expect.

Overall, a very good product for it's intended audience.

So far so good, but....
I already owned another Lorex package product which included 4 of these wireless cameras and a small 7" lcd display with wireless receiver. After about 3 months of use, the display failed completely, while the cameras continued to work. Lorex support was less than outstanding on dealing with the display issue and I have read other reports about reliability concerns. So, in an attempt to remedy my problem, I bought this setup which gave me an extra camera and the small wireless receiver. The receiver will connect to most modern displays via the included connector cables and thus provide the same 4 panel view that the Lorex wireless display had. In this way, I now have a reliable display that is larger, brighter and easier to use than the Lorex version. The receiver allows for single channel (full screen) display or a quad view of all four cameras at once. It also allows for easy pairing and has a selectable view mode of lower quality for simple viewing at higher fps, vs. a higher VGA quality with lower fps. I find the higher quality more useful and the lower fps is not troublesome for my purposes. It would be simple to run this unit to a DVR and record also, though I have yet to do so. As the available light diminishes, the cameras quickly (too quickly in my opinion) go to black and white mode. The night time view distance is obviously much less, but sufficient unless it is complete darkness. I'd say it comes close to achieving its claimed 40' distance at night, but with much less detail. Overall, the units perform as advertised with minor complaints - except reliability. The reason I gave 3 stars is mostly for reliability issues and customer service I've experienced with Lorex. In the future I would not buy their units with included LCD's, but get something like this with a receiver that provides the quad view for my own monitor.

Great for baby cam + iPhone!!!
If you are like us and many new parents, you may have purchased an inside-the-house video baby monitor - such as the Summer. In this day in age, however, an even better solution is one that works both inside your house AND outside your house on your cell phone or at work!

This Sharx SCNC2607 is amazing and perfect for our baby cam. Great picture during the day and absolutely awesome images at night when there is no light in the baby's room! This was exactly what I was looking for when looking at the more expensive solutions such as Axis, Sanyo, etc (which were going to cost me over $500!). I was concerned that the Sharx would be of lower quality but I've been very pleasantly surprised...

Here are some benefits we've found by having the Sharx SCNC2607:
1. When Daddy is at work, I can keep a small window of the baby's room on my screen to see my little girl whenever I have a spare minute!

2. We have the camera setup as an icon on Mommy's iPhone so she can easily click on the camera and view the baby's crib. Whenever Mommy is away (and the Nanny, Grandparents, or Daddy is watching the baby) she can view into the room and see her little girl. Even inside the house we found that Mommy carries her iPhone around with her and its more convenient to have 1 consolidated device rather than also carrying around the Summer receiver.

3. We setup the Grandparents with an secure account to be able to look into the webcam and see their granddaughter anytime... We actually turned off the audio though to ensure we maintain some privacy in our conversations within the baby's room :)...

4. Screen size using the Sharx and the iPhone is 2x the Summer screen and has a much larger viewing angle.

So how hard is this to setup? I'd rate it on the moderately technical side. If you have any experience setting up a wireless network at home then it should be a breeze but you need to configure some things in your router. You'll take the camera out of the box, plug it directly into the router, run their little IP Finder software, then go into the camera and setup passwords, user accounts, etc. On the router (I have a Linksys), you'll need to go to the Applications & Gaming tab and setup Port Forwarding so you can securely tunnel into your home network to see the camera. Not difficult but I can see how someone with no experience may struggle a bit. Good news is that the camera comes with one of the best installation guide's I've ever seen that walks you through it all and even gives you steps to setup your own URL (through DDNS).

There is one thing you should keep in mind when going with a webcam instead of an inside-the-house monitor - the webcam is a `passive' device. Meaning you need to go to the webcam on your iPhone to see the camera. The inside-the-house versions that are `always on' enables us to put the baby to bed and listen to the monitor when she wakes. You can enable audio on the webcam but you still need to have it up on the iPhone to hear it (and likely Mommy is doing Facebook, etc). If I were to do this over again, I would simply buy a cheaper audio-only inside-the-house monitor to hear when the baby wakes up and use the Sharx for the video whenever I want to see the baby. (Or I could go old school and just listen for the baby to cry but what type of a techno-daddy would I be then :)?)

I'll finish with the customer service I received by the guys at SecurCam. One word - fantastic. I first purchased the SCNC2602W. However, I didn't realize that this camera didn't work with my iPhone or non-Internet Explorer browsers. I contacted the folks at SecurCam and they explained the issue and very quickly helped me out by selling me the 2607 even before the product was officially launched! They've been awesome at responding to my technical issues, have a great online support setup, and flat-out great products. In the day in age where everyone is cutting back and outsourcing their support to overseas - these guys set a new standard in personalized support. I'd not only purchase additional cameras from them, but if they went into business on other items I would not hesitate to purchase them also. Keep up the great work guys!!!

Excellent Choice

I recently purchased the SCNC2607 IP-Cam to use as a video server that I could access from within my home on my PC's and iPhones, as well as to access the video from anywhere outside my home LAN if I want.

Not requiring any special software to access this camera is the single most important item for me. If you want to be able to log into a camera from anywhere in the world, on any machine that has a connection to the internet and a web browser of some type, this is the one. There is also an included application called "Multi Live" which allows you to view up to 4 cams in one window.

The camera itself was pretty easy to set up, and the image quality is superb! No tricky setup decisions are necessary by the user to decide what type of streams are available to whoever logs into it from whatever platform. If you log into it on an iPhone through Safari, the iPhone negotiates with the camera server software and automatically appends the URL with the "/en/mjpgmain.asp" extension. If logged in from Internet Explorer, the basic URL automatically appends the "en/avmain.asp" extension. All you need to do is type the URL of the camera into your browser and the rest is taken care of automatically.

Safari on the iPhone will not process the audio stream, but this is not a problem with the camera, it is a limitation with Safari. I have read that Safari on a Mac computer will also not process the audio stream. I have tried various iPhone applications to process the audio stream, without success. But the designer of IP Vision by TTrix software has written me that an upcoming version will process audio. I have also tried this camera on a Sony PSP-3000 with the current firmware version (installed on 02-10-09) and current Flash update, but the device chokes up on memory limitations and can only process the jpeg still image. Some tablet PC's and/or WiFi portable media players like the Nokia N810 or Archos 605 might work, but I haven't tried them.

The default image quality settings don't need to be tweaked to lower quality settings unless your upload bandwidth gets maxed out. For one login to the camera (over the internet from work) I was able to use the maximum quality settings and didn't see or hear any problems. My connection at home is cable internet with about 128 Kilobyte upload and 5 Megabit download, so I was worried about upload speed. With 8 users logged on, there could be issues requiring some settings tweaks, but that's more than most people are probably going to be worried about. If you connect within your LAN then you don't need to be concerned with upload bandwidth, because the data isn't passing through your modem.

There is a color setting, moonlight setting, and night vision setting, but I choose to let the camera do what it thinks it needs to do and have left these controls in automatic. The night vision works even in absolute darkness, and the image is crisp and clean. There is a setting for motion detection, with variable parameters to offset alarms or recording from occurrences like ceiling fans or a bird flying past a window.

When viewing the camera on your browser, you have some easy control buttons available to take snapshots in either .bmp or .jpg formats. You can also record to your hard drive, in the .asf format. Recording can be stopped and started with the "Record" button, or started with the button and stopped by a maximum file size input that anyone logged in can specify. These picture and video controls can be run by anyone you authorize in either the admin account or any user accounts you set up.

The user accounts (an account created that is not the admin account) has no access to your settings for the camera, so it's a good one to send to Mom and Dad or your crazy aunt. When they get to the logon screen, if they choose "Enter" they can see what's on your camera and record what they see and/or hear. If they try to enter "Settings" then they are presented with the login username/ password box again. As long as they don't have your admin password, then you are safe from unauthorized changes to the camera settings.

For up to 8 concurrent logons, you don't need to create 8 separate guest user accounts. One will suffice. I have logged onto one guest account through a browser on my PC over the internet, through my iPhone on WiFi over the internet, and also through another browser on the same PC but using the LAN IP address. That's pretty cool to be able to log on over LAN or WAN while connected through the same router the camera is connecting to. Like if somebody chops up your internet cable connection with a ditch digger, you can still see the cam by using the LAN address.

The instruction manual supplied with the camera is very good. I only found one typo and it wasn't important. It was not translated three times from an original language using obscure clucking noises and hieroglyphic symbols. An email to tech support was answered promptly and with great attention to detail. The techies are REAL ENGINEERS, not some morons in monkey suits with a license to confuse and aggravate.

I mentioned before that the camera "itself" was easy to set up. That is true. What might be a bit challenging for some is the router configuration. I suggest while waiting for the camera to be delivered, brush up on your router's help files. Find the range of IP addresses your router is assigning to devices automatically, such as 192.168.1.25 through 192.168.1.125, because the IP address you choose to assign to the cam to make it a permanent host will be somewhere outside of that range. Also check to see if your router has the latest firmware. My Trendnet TEW-452BRP had a glitch with running DDNS updates, even if all the fields were input properly. This would have caused me great frustration had I not checked the website first.

If you want to access the cam from outside your LAN, then read up a little bit on DDNS. I'm using a free account from "no-ip.com" and there is a brief primer on using this service in the camera instruction manual. Check your router to see if it has an automatic function to update your current IP Address to a DDNS server. It doesn't have to, as your PC can do it for you automatically every time it boots with a free program you get after registering, but why not be redundant if you can? If you decide to set up DDNS so as to access the cam through WAN, then find out how to give the cam TCP and UDP privileges on a specified port number, typically using a function called "Virtual Server." Otherwise you would open "DMZ" or perhaps "Special AP" to give the cam connectivity rights.

Be warned that DMZ opens all ports, which might be dangerous. Special AP is for programs which require multiple connections that are blocked by NAT, so again that might be dangerous as well. Using Virtual Server only opens the ports necessary for functionality of this specific device, so it is the best way to punch that hole through the wall into the WWW. And remember, if you are restricting access to the router by use of MAC numbers, shut that off when first installing the cam or else you won't get it to connect. Later you can turn it back on.

None of this is rocket science, but if problems do occur, the Engineers at Sharx are competent and they are committed to not letting you fail. It even says so in the instruction manual!

Fantastic for the Price
The title really says it all. While I didn't actually buy mine (business gift), it's something I'd have paid for if I had a need. It's an excellent unit to keep in your pocket in case you need a better view of things, or your "usual" night vision optic is out of whack.

That being said, anyone looking to buy this needs to know two things:

Firstly, this is a night vision device, not an infrared device. While, yes, infrared devices are "technically" night vision devices, this is a standard, light-amplification device. It is an incredibly good one for the price you pay, but it does not do what an infrared display does. You cannot walk into a pitch black room and see everything with a heat signature.

Secondly, this is a low-end night vision device. That is not to say it is not good, but it is to say that it is not excellent. For the price, it is a fantastic value, but if you compare this to other units starting at $600 and going up from there, you will be very disappointed. That being said, don't do that.

This is an excellent device for most hunters, and certainly sufficient to just go out and tool around with because you're bored. If you need something of "professional" quality, this is the wrong device for you, and honestly... why are you shopping on Amazon and not a proper dealer?

I am really enjoying this purchase. As other reviewers of NVDs have stated, this is not a military class unit (unless you are comparing it to a 1960 era unit), but for $200 who cares. I have about an acre of land and I can check out the whole yard without a problem. It is more solid than the picture gives it credit for, and is comfortable to hold. I would recomend this unit to anyone who just wants an NVD for recreational purposes.

the point of night vision
When I first ordered this item I was hoping it would help me see in very dark environments. When I finally got it and tried it out I realized in order to see in night vision you have to already have some type of light source in order for these night vision mono's to pick anything up. In very dark conditions you still can not see anything out of these mono's. That defeats the purpose of having this item. I should of bought a flashlight I would of been able to see better and it would of been cheaper.

Rugged, but image quality lacks compared to the competition
Pros:
- rugged, rubberized housing;
- strong IR illumination LED;

Cons:
- lot of black spots in view;
- any light source nearby oversaturates the image;
- I wasn't able to focus it sharp enough;
- battery cover hard to screw back;
- needs special battery;

I've bought this monocular and compared it to two Night Owl products with similar features and pricing (the 3x and the 5x magnification versions). I tried them indoors without any lighting, and outdoors at night in a park-like setting with dark areas and some lights that were weaker than streetlights. Everything in my review is based on comparing the two brand's products.

The FT1200 is more appealing with its rubberized housing that looks way more rugged and tough. However, it uses batteries that are more expensive and less commonly available than the AAs other products use, and it's hard to fit the battery cover on its thread so it screws back without seizing. Since it's all plastic, I predict the thread will wear out sooner or later as the batteries get changed.

The IR illumination is stronger than in the competing products, but every other aspect of the optics performs worse. With this technology it's normal to have some tiny dark spots in the view, but this unit had so many it was annoying, and there were way fewer in the Night Owl monoculars. I was never able to focus as sharply as with the Night Owls. The occasional outdoor lights in the distance made the whole image so light that nothing else could be seen, even if the light source was far and just at the edge of the viewable area. The same lights did not ruin the rest of the view in the other brand's products.

I loved the ruggedness and grip of this monocular, but the image quality was so noticeably worse that I returned this, and kept the Night Owl with the 5x magnification.

ir camera learning curve
I had the camera set up in a short time, and began monitoring on my PC via video capture. I have a semi-retired time-lapse VCR that I plan to hook up for recording later. The first thing I learned was that having it mounted behind the glass of the garage door, it's great in daytime, but the glare at night renders it almost useless. Not a fault of the camera, rather the location. Aimed into the pitch dark garage with no light interference you can see everything clearly. Pretty awesome. I just need to come up with a way to view the driveway without all that glare. I may have to consider placing it out back to monitor owl activity if I'm unsuccessful out front. One question, should I place it in a housing or is it weatherproof as-is?
